How much does a family of five actually spend in a month while living and traveling full time in an RV?
In July 2026, we spent $9,342.
And this time, we mean pretty much everything.
If you’ve followed our monthly expense series before, you’ve probably seen us share our RV-related expenses: the RV payment, campgrounds, fuel, insurance, internet, repairs and the other costs directly related to traveling and living in our RV.
For July, we wanted to go further.
We tracked our regular family spending too. Groceries, eating out, medical expenses, school, clothes, household purchases, entertainment, business expenses and all the random stuff that happens in real life.
Because as helpful as it is to know what someone spends on campgrounds, that’s only one piece of what it actually costs their family to live this way.
So, here’s where our money went in July.
Our July 2026 Full-Time RV Expenses
Total spent: $9,342
July wasn’t exactly a “normal” month (are any months normal?), which is one of the reasons we’re sharing these numbers.
There were some expenses we have every month, but there were also several things that made July more expensive, including an emergency flight to Arizona, a big stock-up on energy drinks and additional one-on-one reading lessons for one of our kids.
That’s exactly why we think sharing this month by month is more useful than giving you one number and calling it the “cost of RV life.”

What July Actually Taught Us
The biggest takeaway from July isn’t that you need $9,342 a month to live in an RV.
You don’t.
That’s what our family of five spent in this particular month.
Some of those expenses are recurring. Some were annual or occasional. Some were stock-ups that will last for months. Some were completely unexpected.
Next month will look different.
And that’s really the point of sharing these reports.
If you’re planning to RV full time, looking at several months of someone’s actual spending tells you a lot more than seeing one viral post claiming you can live in an RV for $2,000 a month… or that you need $10,000.
Seeing our numbers is a starting point, but your family, rig, travel style and priorities may look completely different.
We put together a Full-Time RV Budget Planner that will help you work through your own expected expenses, including campground costs, fuel, RV payments, maintenance, internet and all those regular-life expenses that don’t disappear when you move into an RV.
